Good Western Boots Men Need

Western style cowboy boots date all the way back to the 1860s. The boots worn by equestrian riders and cavalry soldiers later evolved into those worn by cowboys on cattle drives. These boots have enjoyed a lengthy tradition that continues even today. Of course, today the western boots men wear are worn for many different reasons.

In the times of the 1860s, the boots were worn along with spurs to get your horse moving along when you needed some speed. In addition, they provided some protection from bushes, rock, and thorns while on horseback. In addition, when a cowboy was not riding, his boots protected him from the snakes and scorpions commonly found in the West. Many people continue to wear their boots today for these same reasons. Nevertheless, both men and women also wear them because they are the fashionable thing to wear with casual jeans or to go out on the town.

Because western boots today serve both the ranch hand’s functional needs as well as the urban cowboy’s fashion sense, you can imagine the wide variety of western boots men find available. You only have to browse a few western wear stores to find out that there are boots in more colors than just black and brown. In addition, men can choose boots in many different styles. Some western boot styles double as work boots. The Wellington and Roper styles are frequently used for working in and can be bought in durable cowhide leather with steel toes. Other boots are far too fancy and expensive to come anywhere close to a construction site, cow patty or a mud puddle. These are usually made from exotic skins such as alligator, snake, lizard, ostrich, or eel and require more boot care. You are not going to wear one of these to work but you would wear them out on the town or to an outdoor wedding.

The different toe types available are also limitless. In the early days, all boots had rounded toes and they were made to fit either foot. Now you can get a many versions of square toes, J toes, snip toes, needle toe, and variations of round toe boots. Round toes are very common on cowboy work boots.

After you have determined what type of western boots for men you want to get, you can more easily narrow down your brand choices as you search. You can certainly search through western stores like Sheplers, Bootbarn or Bootbay. If you go to an actual store, it is always a good idea to try a few pairs on so you can see how different brands fit. Most brands fit true to size but you can check it and see. However, if you can’t find what you are looking for, you can always shop online to find the perfect boots for you. You will now know your exact size so shopping online won’t be questionable. Sheplers has a boot fitting video on their website as does Bootbarn. You can also contact either one of those stores and get more details.

When you shop online for that special pair of boots, you can more easily compare the prices of different brands of boots and find the perfect color and style you want. We like Sheplers a lot because they have an excellent boot review section. It is easy to read the reviews without getting lost in the navigation of the site. Customer boot reviews are particularly helpful because men just like you experience the boots and share what they learned. It can save you time and money in your decision process. In addition, when you order online, you are more likely to find the boot you want in the size you need. There is more choice per style and color online of western boots for men than in most brick and mortar stores.

Change Your Look with a Vintage Western Shirt

Although I am an American, my introduction to the vintage western shirt did not take place until I was in my twenties and living in another country. During the mid and late 1970s, there was a rockabilly revival in London where I was living. By 1980, the Stray Cats were rockin’ the British Isles and many people were starting to dress with a rockabilly flare. While many people dressed in leather jackets, it also became all the rage to dress up in vintage western wear.

If you could find a western or engineer shirt, you had a cool look. The rockabilly influence would have young Londoner’s dressing in all kinds of outrageous outfits. Some were looking like they were just come off the stage of the Grand Ole Opry back in 1960s with their retro embroidered jackets and shirts.

Vintage western wear is still influential in the music business today as it was back then. You will see many band members supporting the look even today here in the United States. For any man who has an interest in looking sharp and just a little bit different, a vintage western shirt is all it takes to stand out from the crowd.

Several manufacturers today make shirts that are very similar to the traditional vintage western shirt. They are high quality and as beautiful as the original shirts. The shirts of yesteryear, usually those made around 1960 and older, were hand-stitched with incredibly vibrant colors. Today companies as Scully, Rockmount, Ely Cattleman, and Roper all continue to make quality embroidered western shirts. The materials they use are top-notch, from pre-shrunk cotton and cotton embroidery. The higher end shirts never pucker when you wash them.

Some of the most amazing true vintage western shirts can be found at hangmhighwesternwear.com. They have vintage cowboy shirts for sale from H Bar C and Nathan Turk. Most real vintage western shirts will have pearl snaps (not buttons), piping, embroidering, and double stitching throughout. There should be no polyester or man-made fibers at all on the shirts, and you should also be able to identify who the manufacturer of the shirt was and roughly the date it was finished. If you find one that is unworn or with a tag still on it, then you have a real find and a shirt that is probably worth a small fortune. These original shirts are getting harder and harder to find in good condition. On this website, you can see some have sold for several hundred dollars.

Rockmont and Scully make plenty of new retro cowboy shirts and it will not cost you that much. Most of the cool ones are from $70 to $120. They have all kinds of different embroidered designs that cater to every type of interest a person might have. You can get floral patterns, skulls, dice, flames, roses, playing cards and many other ornate western flavored designs. They also come in long or short sleeve styles. Here is a list of some of our favorites:

Rockmount 6771 Vintage Western Embroidered Shirt
Rockmount sp670 Money to Burn Larry Winget Retro Western Shirt
Rockmount 6758 Scroll Retro Western Cowboy Shirt
Rockmount 6717 Vintage Western Embroidered Shirt
Scully P-634 Gun Fighter Western Cowboy Embroidered Shirts
Scully P-665 Rock N Roll Embroidered Rockabilly Retro Western Shirts

How to Buy Vintage Cowboy Boots

If you watch any western television episode or cowboy movie made in the past fifty years, they are wearing new vintage cowboy boots. These boots look like the real thing because they are made to look like a vintage style boots. Usually, they have been custom made for the production team to fit the movie stars perfectly. Now, you can actually shop online and find some of the most amazing new vintage cowboy boots. In addition, you do not have to have them custom made.

Real vintage cowboy boots are rare. You have to search for them or find an auction. Moreover, from a practical aspect you probably would not want to wear them anyway. Those are for collectors because they can be extremely expensive often-costing thousands of dollars. By now, the leather is old, dry, and weathered too much to take a chance of ruining such items. Although you might be lucky and stumble on a pair that is undervalued, usually, you will pay top dollar for any pair of name brand cowboy boots that are more than fifty years old.

However, boot manufacturers such as Old Gringo make new vintage cowboy boots. These boots are made to have the retro look of distressed worn leather. And they are in styles they look like they were worn in the 1800s. Many also have a modern twist to them which is a nice touch. Old Gringo’s ultra vintage boots for men and women feature several popular styles. Over at Sheplers you can see in boot reviews they are highly rated. The following list all received five stars from many customers.

Men’s Old Gringo ultra vintage Pisa harness western boots
Women’s Old Gringo ultra vintage Petalos boots
Men’s Old Gringo chocolate Valentino western boots
Women’s Old Gringo Eden western boots
Women’s Old Gringo ultra vintage Cactus western boots

These are expensive but they are well made. The most common comment people make about the Old Gringo boots are how comfortable they are. They fit well right out of the box so they don’t need a break-in time, which is great if you wear them to work every day. It seems many people do that.

Another thing that appeals to many people who buy vintage cowboy boots such as the Old Gringo or Lucchese brands is the uniqueness of the boot. The Old Gringo boots are embroidered and have ornate stitching or inlay in their design. Each pair has a distinct look. Many a customer buys them because they know no one else will be wearing them. The price might also figure into that strategy as well. However, as we all know, you get what you pay for in most instances and that is true in this case.

So as you can see, you don’t have to buy old boots to get a vintage or retro look. You can now get antique look with modern comfort and fit in a new pair.

True vintage cowboy wear that was worn by cowboys from decades long ago is popular with collectors of western clothing and boots. These vintage western items come at a high price. You will not find these types of items in regular western wear stores. However, if you want the look and flare of vintage clothing, you can find that at many western wear stores.

When you walk into any western boot or shoe store and see the wide variety of cowboy boots that are available, you are looking at only a small slice of the pie. There are many more boots available that you just won’t see in your local store. Those handmade custom cowboy boots are all the rage right now.

With custom boots, you are never limited to sizes or colors available. Imagine having a pair of boots custom-made exactly to your specifications, from the size and shape of your foot and instep to the exact color, stitching, and toe style that you want.

There are several amazing boot makers in our country that take orders for custom cowboy boots from people like you and I every day. The work that they turn out is art. Ever hear of Back at the Ranch Boots, Paul Bond Boots, J.B. Hill Boots, M.L. Leddy’s or Rocketbuster Boots? Those are just a fraction of the handmade western boot makers out there.

One problem for you when you get some custom cowboy boots is that you might actually be afraid to wear them! Some of these boots never even end up on a pair of feet, but are put on display because of the high level of artisanship and skill that is used in creating them.

But, if you are looking for a good pair of leather boots that you aren’t afraid to wear out on the town, then these custom cowboy boots will still fit the bill. They can come with a high price, but you are getting every dollar’s worth. Unlike foreign made boots that are made by people who have never worn a pair of boots in their life, actual boot wearers make these American made pieces of footwear. These folk have been perfecting their craft for decades.

They are made from the finest materials, and made to last. If you are looking for a pair of boots to get you through one fashion season, then these are certainly not them. When you buy custom made boots, you are buying them for life!

Of course, not everyone has the money to buy the most high-end boots available today. However, several manufacturers in our country provide nice handmade cowboy boots at affordable prices. Lucchese, Tony Lama, Dan Post and Justin boots come to mind. Some of these are meant for dress only (in other words, don’t get on a horse with them on!) You won’t want to get them wet or dirty.

When you buy your custom cowboy boots, ask the salesperson for advice on the best way to take care of them. Make them last forever so you get as much out of your investment as possible.

Stepping Out With Women’s Justin Boots

I’m not one to get caught up with name brands. I’d just as soon save a few bucks and buy some clothes at the local discount store. But I have to tell you that there is just something about a pair of Justin boots for women that makes me want to buy the real deal. When you are talking about cowboy boots, women’s Justin boots are the only real choice for the cowgirl-inspired customer.

The Justin boot company has been a top name in western boots since they became available in 1879. There is real history behind their boots and shoes. That pedigree appeals to me.

To find any ole leather cowboy boot at half the price is not easy. However, these products won’t fit like Justin footwear. Cheap cowboy boots don’t fit well and don’t last long. The leather and handcrafted quality will not be part of a cheap boot. Clothing such as jeans, shirts, and boots need to be manufactured correctly if you want quality. This means they are not inexpensive. I know that cowboys of yesterday didn’t wear boots they bought at a discount store. They bought boots they could wear for function and durability, and that looked good, too. That is exactly what I was looking for when I buy women’s Justin boots. I want a boot that I could wear out riding my horse and then head out to town in the same boots. That boot needs to last through years and years of wear too.

Part of wearing cowboy boots for me is feeling like you are part of the cowboy legacy. Only a few brands offer boot legacy. Justin, Lucchese, and Tony Lama boots all come to mind as boot makers established a long time ago. In addition, while Ariat boots as well as some of the other newer boot companies like Old Gringo offer great styles and excellent western boots, I want the legacy.

There are a lot of women’s Justin boots to choose from, and I didn’t take my buying decision lightly. I like the look of women’s vintage cowboy boots. Ultimately, I decided to buy a pair called Bent Rail Puma tan. This sexy little boot has a J3 toe, which is pointed and round. However, it is not radically pointed like a needle-nose boot. It also has a single stitched welt. I like the antique tan look but it has something modern about it also. These boots look great when I wear my favorite pair of western wear jeans and my Tony Lama Kaitlyn Crystal leather western belt. This look works for me whether I’m out and about or even at the stables. It is the perfect combination of functionality and good looks.

The fact is that I don’t normally spend that kind of money on shoes or clothing of any kind. However, when you buy women’s Justin boots, I think you are buying a piece of history, too. Again, for me it is that cowboy legacy thing. Therefore, I thought that spending a few extra bucks was justified. I do not regret buying these boots for a minute, because they are functional and still so great looking on my feet that I can get a lot of use out of them.

My only problem with them is… I love them so much that I want to buy another pair of Justin boots. I’m not the kind of gal to have more than a pair of boots in her closet at the same time, but I think I may just have to make an exception here because these Justin boots are amazing! Right now, I have my eye on a black Justin aqua gypsy boot. These boots look a lot like the Ariat fatbaby boots and are 8″ high with rubber soles. They look great for just kicking around in. The one I like is black on the lower part and an aqua color on the upper. The reviews over at Sheplers have been good which, also encourages me to get them. I am not sure I can resist much longer.

Western boots for men are worn for many different reasons. Today they serve both the ranch hand’s functional needs as well as the urban cowboy’s fashion sense.

Western style cowboy boots date all the way back to the Civil War. The boots worn by Civil War soldiers later evolved into those worn by cowboys in the Old West. These boots have enjoy a lengthy tradition that continues even today. Of course, today western boots for men are worn for many different reasons.

In the times of the Old West, the boots were worn along with spurs to get your horse moving along when you needed some speed. In addition, they provided some protection from critters like snakes and scorpions that are common the West. There are surely some people around today who continue to wear their boots for these same reasons. Nevertheless, others wear them because they are the fashionable thing to wear, even in big cities where snakes and scorpions aren’t a daily concern.

Because western boots today serve both the ranch hand’s functional needs as well as the urban cowboy’s fashion sense, you can imagine the wide variety of western boots for men available. You only have to walk into a few western wear stores to find out that there are boots in all colors, shapes, and sizes. Some are very apparently meant to be worn as working boots while others are far too fancy and expensive to come anywhere close to a cow patty or a mud puddle. You can find black, brown, red, and even pink and turquoise boots, made from cowhide, alligator, snake, and any number of other animal skins. Then you can have the choice of pointed toes, square toe cowboy boots, or an endless amount of variations of those toe styles. The options for your cowboy boots are endless.

The perfect western boots for men are based on your preference and how you intend to use the boots. If you are going to go stomping around a pasture in them and using them how cowboys of yesterday used them, you want a sturdy shoe that will stand up to some major wear and tear. You have to have this durability or you’ll be miserable. If you are going to be showing your fancy boots off in big city business meetings, you need a high-end boot made of premium materials and perhaps from an exotic animal skin. In this case, you want your boots to be a real topic of conversation.

After you have determined what kind of western boots for men you want to get, you can more easily narrow down your choices as you search. You can certainly search through western stores near your home, and it’s always a good idea to try a few pairs on so you can see how different brands fit. However, if you can’t find what you are looking for, you can always shop online to find the perfect boots for you. When you shop online for that special pair of boots, you can more easily compare the prices of different brands of boots and find the perfect color and style you want. What’s more, when you order online, you are more likely to find the boot you want in the size you need. There is more choice per style and color online than in most brick and mortar stores.

The Western Boots Women love come in all shapes, colors, styles, and attitudes. What style and attitude to you wish to convey to the world? Find those boots!

There’s no denying the fact that most women simply love to go shopping for shoes. Whether it’s high heels, athletic shoes, sandals, or western boots, women just love their shoes. Some women have a closet full of shoes, and we’ve all heard more than one husband complain that his wife just has more shoes than she knows what to do with.

However, women will justify their many shoes by stating that you need different shoes for different occasions. This holds true for big city girls and it holds true for country girls, too.

In fact, when it comes to western boots, women from the country simply have to have a variety of options. You can’t just wear the same pair of boots everywhere you go! You will want some white cowboy boots to wear to summer weddings and other outdoor events during warmer months. You will need square toe cowboy boots as well as pointed toe boots complete with a steel tip at the end. In addition, you have to have a variety of colors and animal skins if you want a boot to wear with all of your outfits. Sure, you could probably get by with one pair of brown boots and one pair of black boots. That will probably be enough to get you through whatever events may come your way but what fun is that?

With western boots, women simply cannot have enough of these shoes! You need to consider the various styles, because boots that are great to wear to the grocery store just won’t do for wearing to the honky tonk on a Saturday night. And you can’t wear the same boots that you do farm work in to a play at the kids’ school. If you want to have a truly complete wardrobe with a polished look every day, you need to have cowboy boots that come in a range of styles and colors, because you really do need something to match every outfit you own.

Now, chances are your husband may not think it’s such a good idea to stockpile boots in your closet for any old occasion. But with western boots, women know that you can never have too many. It make take a little convincing on your part to get your man to agree to you owning all of those boots, because chances are he may need to concede a little of his closet space over to you. If you are looking for a good way to convince him, you can always pick him up a pair of new cowboy boots on your next shoe shopping trip. (This totally works to defuse his concerns!) You know as well as I do that nobody can resist a new pair of boots, so if you get him to share in your boot passion, chances are he may just be a little more agreeable to your next shoe shopping outing. Don’t give up on your dream of having western boots for every outfit you own! Your husband may be against the idea, but if you give him time (and a new pair of boots for him), he may just come around!
